About

I'm your Book Whisperer!

I'm Virginia (Ginny) McGowan PhD: an author, speaker, ghostwriter, editor, and adult educator. As a practicing anthropologist, I made a career by applying social science insights and methods to address real-world problems such as addictions and mental health, cancer screening, criminal justice, violent extremism, Indigenous healing, gender issues, and more.

Recently, I turned her sights on organizational culture as a Certified Workplace Relational Skills Practitioner to address civility in the workplace, which I promotes as investment in relational (soft) skills training and transformational leadership. My latest book, Civil@Work: The Ultimate Guide to Mastering Soft Skills for Business Success, amplifies that theme. In this unique, practical, and evidence-informed book, you'll learn the why and how to master the relational/interpersonal skills that have solid impacts on the bottom line. This book was launched in July 2025 to international bestseller status!

I'm also the author of several other books such as Harness the Power of Mentoring: How to Find and Work with the Right Mentor - A Guide for the Solopreneur - Revised Edition (The Business Mentoring Solution Series for Solopreneurs Book 1, rev. ed. 2025), which was a finalist in two international business book awards, and A Metaphoric Mind: Selected Writings of Joseph Couture (2016), the teachings of an eminent Indigenous Elder, that has been downloaded and purchased by thousands of readers.

I'm also the author of a children's book, an eco-fable, A Girl, Her Mother, and the Forest: A Love Story (2020), that was short-listed in the PEI Literary Awards, Children's Literature. In addition to writing, I enjoy spending time on other passions and interests such as e-biking, painting, and with my beloved grandchildren and Havenese dogs.

You can sign up to get updates about my writing and availability as a speaker here. In exchange, you will be able to download my eBook The Winning Ways of Being Civil@Work: 5 Steps to Personal and Professional Success.

Is there a human advantage in AI-integrated workplaces? As AI becomes ever

As AI becomes ever more integrated into our day-to-day business and professional practices, thorny questions are being asked, not the least of which is where does that put use mere mortals? Are we doomed to the periphery, sadly looking for ways to find meaning and purpose while AI has the world functioning tickity-poo?

Not in the least, in my opinion. The traits that make us uniquely human are those that are needed now more than ever. Our senses of ethics and morality, our ability to make...

Better tighten your seat belt...On the flip side of the coin, the real cost of incivility in the workplace in the US costs more than $2.1 billion USD per day due to absenteeism and reduced productivity, as reported by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) for the first quarter of 2025. The SHRM Civility Index Score reached 48.8 by the end of March 2025 (on a scale from 0 to 100). This indicates a very slight--but not statistically significant--in incivility compared with Q1 of...
